Mayhem and destruction!!!

Today there was a short but pretty intense little storm that blew through, wind, hail, torrential rain, thunder and lightning, the works. The power went out in different areas, a lot of credit card systems wouldn't work. We (we being Matthew and me) went to go get gas, and the stop lights a long the way weren't working and people didn't seem to know what to do without them, we went to get gas and we had to wait for the pumps to turn back on, and then the credit card reader wouldn't work, fortunately Matthew had cash on him. We went to the super awesome Chinese buffet in the mall, afterwards when we went to pay the woman that runs the register said to us "I hope you have cash". Again, fortunately we both did, which is pretty rare. We walked around the mall for a bit and noticed that a bunch of stores closed early. After the mall we went to my house and the power was out, and stayed that way for about two hours. It got dark and really hot in the house so instead of sitting there in dim candlelight we decided to go for a walk. In a manner that really reminded me of the zombies in Dawn of the Dead who went to the only place they knew to go to, we decided to go to the gas station, even though we knew they probably wouldn't have any power or anything cold to drink either. When we were about thirty feet from the place the power in town went back on. After their registers went back online they let us in we found out that the power had been off for four hours, not just two, and all their food went bad and their drinks weren't very cold.

It's kind of funny, sad, and really scary how reliant we are on technology. Something as simple as the power going out puts people into this panic and gives you this weird end of the world kind of feeling.

That WAS really bad! I was just leaving the mall when it started. The traffic lights were out at 140 near Target & people were being SO fucking stupid, just going whenever they felt like it. Crazy, man.
That sucks your power went out, it was wayyy too hot for that! It did feel like the end of the world, lol.

I used to love it when the power went out. It was a semi-regular occurance in Aldergrove.
But yeah, it is kind of sad how we're dependent on technology. I work in an office, and went in during the day shift a while back and the power went off. You should've seen these people, running around with no idea of what to do. The phones wouldn't work because they're VOIP phones, so people were calling different clients telling them, with fear in their voices, that the power had gone out. I just sat by the window and read a book.

At least you got to leave work when it happened though, so you didn't have to deal with everyone in the mall freaking out because of credit cards not working. I think that was one of the intersections we were at and people were just like "OH ITS NOT RED, THAT MEANS I CAN JUST GO." We wound up sitting there for like 5 minutes just watching all these dicks fly through the intersection. Not actual dicks though, because that would look really weird.

Senator Stampingston: Dethklok has summoned a troll.
General Kroiser: That’s impossible, there’s no such thing as trolls.
Stampingston: Then how do you explain the dead unicorns?
:iconthegraymalkin:
Yeah, I kind of want to distance myself from some technology for that reason, but then again I don't want to be like some old person who can't figure out how to right click on a computer either. It is fun when the power goes out, and I want it to stay that way and not be freaking out. It's nice to just NOT hear anything buzzing sometimes.
